Dr. Hilde De Reuse

Institut Pasteur Paris (FR)

Associate professor at the Institut Pasteur in the Unit of Pathogenesis of Mucosal Bacteria, trained as a microbiologist and geneticist, always interested in understanding how a microorganism responds and adapts to its environment or host, starting with the study of a model microbe residing in the gut Escherichia coli, switched to the microbial pathogens with a particular interest in Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium associated with several gastric diseases in humans, discovered several mechanisms essential for the adaptation and multiplication of Helicobacter pylori in the harsh environment of the stomach and establishment of link between these survival strategies and the virulence potential of this pathogen, the studies provided new targets for the development of strategies for treatment and prevention of H. pylori infection.

To be awarded at the first IDF Regional Conference on Fermented Milks - Technology and Nutrition, Moscow, Russia, 17 May 2007
