Distinguished University Professor and William Neal Reynolds Professor in Food Science, Microbiology and Genetics at North Carolina State University. Elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA. Research Interests include development of novel mechanisms that circumvent bacteriophage infection of starter cultures. Also, investigating the molecular mechanisms responsible for the survival and activity of probiotic Lactobacillus species in the gastrointestinal tract and use of this information to support development of bacterial delivery systems for bio-theraputic compounds in vivo.
